Who are Advantis?

Advantis are a national debt collection firm based in Staffordshire, operating across the UK. Advantis represent utility providers, telecommunications companies, banks, and the Government to collect outstanding debt on their behalf. This means Advantis may be chasing you for outstanding gas and electric bills, an unpaid phone or broadband contract, outstanding HMRC debt, or a store card you may have fallen behind with as an example.

Why are Advantis contacting me?

If Advantis are chasing you, this means that your original lender has sold your debt onto them. This is often done when the original lender has exhausted all efforts to get you to pay the money you owe. They will then sell this debt onto a debt collection firm such as Advantis who will take over responsibility of recovering payment.

What action will Advantis take against me?

Debt collection firms tend to be more persistent in chasing unpaid debt. Therefore you may find that Advantis attempt to contact you more than your original lender did whether by phone call, letter, or both. This is because they have more resources to dedicate to chasing outstanding debt, so you can expect more frequent contact.

If ignored, a debt collection agency such as Advantis can take you to court to register a County Court Judgment (CCJ) against you and they may even send one of their agents to your home. It is therefore important that you take steps to resolve the situation rather than just hoping it will go away on its own.

Ignoring the problem is only likely to make the situation worse, causing you a huge amount of stress and anxiety in the process. If you are unable to pay the money you owe, Scotland Debt Solutions can talk you through your options and liaise with Advantis on your behalf.

Should I pay Advantis?

Once a company or lender has sold your debt onto Advantis, it is Advantis who you now owe the money to. This means any payment you make towards the debt must be made to Advantis rather than your original lender.

Before considering payment, you should ask Advantis to provide you with proof of your debt. They have a legal obligation to provide you with this information to ensure that the debt is valid.

Once you have confirmation that the debt is valid, if you can afford to clear your debt this is highly encouraged. This will stop any additional charges, fees, or interest being added to your account and it will bring an end to further letters and phone calls.

What if I cannot pay Advantis?

If you are unable to pay Advantis the money you owe, try to explain your situation to them in a calm and reasonable manner. Many debt collection firms are open to arranging a payment plan to help you clear your debt.

If you do enter into these negotiations, you need to be very careful and ensure you do not commit yourself to a payment plan that you cannot afford. Doing this is only likely to make your situation worse as this may cause you to fall behind in your other financial commitments such as rent, council tax, or other potential debts

What are my options if I am being chased by Advantis?

If you are being chased by Advantis for a debt you cannot afford to clear, or if you have a number of other unaffordable debts owed to lenders or debt collection agencies – the experts at Scotland Debt Solutions are here to help.
