Several celebrities have given their backing to a new campaign designed to raise funds in support of a prominent Edinburgh homelessness charity.
Social Bite is aiming to provide thousands of homeless people with meals and essential items, as well as emergency accommodation, over the festive period.
To that end, the charity has launched a campaign called ‘Christmas of Kindness’, which is being supported by the former Eastenders actor Martin Kemp, as well as the TV presenter Emma Willis and her musician husband Matt Willis.
The celebrities have offered their high profile backing to the campaign, which is focussed on asking specifically for donations worth £28 to help out homeless people living in various parts of Scotland over the course of the Christmas period.
So-called ‘Trees of Kindness’ have been erected recently by Social Bite in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee, with the idea being that people can come along and make their contributions to the fund-raising campaign in person.
“The work Social Bite does is amazing, so Matt and I are both really proud to support the Festival of Kindness campaign,” said Ms Willis.
“The help the campaign provides for people experiencing homelessness across the country is transformative for so many and more important than ever during the current rises in the cost of living,” she added.
Social Bite’s executive director and co-founder Josh Littlejohn echoed those sentiments and said: “Your kindness is needed now more than ever.
“The economic challenges and inflation facing the country this year means that homeless people face a very bleak winter.
“That’s why we are asking people living in Edinburgh to support our Festival of Kindness campaign by inviting them to be kind and buy or donate a little extra to help those who need it most – even the smallest of gifts will make a huge difference.”
Plans are in place for Social Bite’s coffee shops in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh to open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to offer a little extra warmth and company to anyone who needs it.
