A Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) can complete in one of two ways, either the final monthly repayment is made as per the original arrangement, or a lump-sum payment is made in order to satisfy the outstanding balance remaining.
When a Debt Arrangement Scheme successfully completes, meaning all payments have been made towards the plan as agreed, the following happens:

Understanding what happens when a DAS finishes
In some instances, a DAS may end automatically due to it being revoked or cancelled. This may happen if three monthly payments towards your DAS have been missed without prior approval, if you enter into an alternative debt solution such as a Trust Deed or Sequestration, or if it is found that you provided incorrect or misleading information during the DAS application process.
If a DAS ends in cancellation rather than successful completion, you will still be responsible for repaying any debt which remains unpaid at this point. Any interest or charges which were frozen as part of the DAS will also be backdated and added onto your outstanding debt amount.
Depending on your financial position, you may be required to enter into an alternative insolvency solution to deal with the remaining debt if you have not already done so.
If you are considering using the Debt Arrangement Scheme as a way to deal with your outstanding debts, you will need to discuss this with an approved Money Adviser or a licensed insolvency practitioner.
At Scotland Debt Solutions, we have a team of licensed insolvency practitioners based across Scotland, here to help you work your way out of debt. We can discuss the options available to you – which may include a DAS – and suggest the most appropriate route forward based on your individual circumstances.
